Orange
Oranges are among the most widely consumed citrus fruits globally, enjoyed in various forms such as fresh fruit, juices, salads, smoothies, and desserts. With the increasing international demand for oranges, the orange export industry in India has witnessed significant growth in recent years. As the third-largest orange producer in the world, India holds a strategic position in fulfilling the global citrus demand. The rising export volume is a testament to the quality, flavor, and freshness of Indian oranges, presenting a lucrative opportunity for Indian orange exporters to expand in the international marketplace.
Orange Varieties We Export
India is one of the leading exporters of premium-quality oranges to global markets including the United States, China, Hong Kong, Australia, and Bangladesh. Indian orange exporters offer a diverse range of flavorful and nutrient-rich orange varieties that are widely appreciated for their taste, juiciness, and vibrant color. Below are some of the most exported orange varieties from India:
Nagpur Santra — Nagpur Santra, a renowned variety grown in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is known for its sweet taste and juicy pulp. It features a rustic, pockmarked exterior and is harvested during the winter season, typically from December onwards. Due to its prominence, Nagpur is famously referred to as the “Orange City“ of India.
Coorg Santra — Also known as Coorg Mandarin, this variety is cultivated in the Kodagu region of Karnataka and holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag since 2006. Coorg Santra is recognized for its greenish-yellow color, tight skin, and pleasant sweet-sour taste. It is considered a hybrid mandarin, ideal for fresh consumption and juice production.
Dancy — The Dancy orange is a medium-sized fruit with a thin, leathery, and easily peelable rind. The exterior is smooth, glossy, and may become bumpy over time. The skin color ranges from deep orange-red to scarlet as it matures. Dancy oranges are particularly favored for their rich flavor and soft pulp.
Darjeeling Mandarin — Darjeeling Mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) is a significant cash crop in the Darjeeling Hills, cultivated across approximately 930 hectares of land. This variety yields around 148 metric tonnes annually and is valued for its fragrant aroma, balanced sweetness, and regional uniqueness.
Kinnow Mandarin — Pronounced as Kinoo or Kinu, the Kinnow is a high-yield hybrid citrus fruit—a cross between the ‘King’ and ‘Willow Leaf’ mandarins. Known for its exceptional juiciness, Kinnow is mainly cultivated in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Haryana, making it one of the most commercially important orange varieties in India.
