Coconut Varieties We Export from India
India is a major exporter of coconuts, supplying a diverse range of varieties to global markets. Coconut exporters in India export several high-quality coconut cultivars that cater to different climatic conditions and commercial needs. Here are some of the prominent coconut varieties exported from India:
West Coast Tall — Also known as the common or ordinary tall variety, West Coast Tall is highly recommended for large-scale cultivation. It produces high-quality coconut water suitable for direct consumption and fermentation. This variety is also valued for its use in soap manufacturing.
East Coast Tall — East Coast Tall coconuts take 6 to 8 years to mature and produce slightly smaller nuts compared to West Coast Tall. This variety thrives along India’s eastern coastal regions including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and Pondicherry, and is ideal for large-scale production.
Chandrakalpa (Lakshadweep Ordinary – LCT) — Chandrakalpa grows well in varied soil types and tolerates moisture stress. It is primarily cultivated in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

VPM-3 (Andaman Ordinary) — Known for its drought tolerance, VPM-3 is suitable for both rainfed and irrigated conditions. It has a high copra yield with 70% oil content and is cultivated in Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andaman Islands, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar.
Aliyar Nagar — Aliyar Nagar flowers one year earlier than VPM-3 and other tall varieties. It is moderately resistant to major pests and produces about 126 nuts per palm per year, with an oil content of 66.5%.
Tiptur Tall — A popular cultivar from Karnataka, Tiptur Tall takes 6 to 7 years to mature. It yields around 86 nuts per palm annually, with approximately 68% oil content.
