Chickpea Varieties We Export

India exports several high-quality varieties of chickpeas, including L550, JG315, Pusa 391, and many others. The increasing global demand for chickpeas has boosted the export business from India, offering a great opportunity for farmers and exporters alike.

Here are some of the major chickpea varieties exported from India:

L 550 —  Released in 1978, L 550 chickpeas mature in about 136-140 days after transplanting. These have bold, salmon-white seeds with an average yield of 17-20 quintals per hectare.

JG 315 —  Introduced in 1984, JG 315 matures in 125-130 days. This wilt-resistant variety features brown, wrinkled seeds and yields approximately 19-20 quintals per hectare.

Pusa 391 —  Released in 1997, Pusa 391 matures in 110-120 days. Known for its bold, light brown seeds, this variety yields 17-18 quintals per hectare.

BGD 72 —  This variety, released in 1999, matures in 135-140 days. BGD 72 is wilt and root rot resistant with bold seeds and a high yield of 25-30 quintals per hectare.

Gujarat Gram 1 —  Released in 1999, Gujarat Gram 1 matures in 105-110 days. It is generally wilt-resistant and produces yields between 17-22 quintals per hectare.

ICCC 32 —  Introduced in 1985, ICCC 32 matures in 130-150 days. It has medium-sized seeds, is wilt-resistant, and yields around 18-20 quintals per hectare.

KAK 2 —  Released in 2000, KAK 2 matures in 125-130 days. This bold-seeded variety yields about 17-18 quintals per hectare.

Uday (KPG 59) —  Uday or KPG 59, released in 1992, matures in 130-140 days and is suited for late sowing. The average yield ranges from 18-20 quintals per hectare.

GNG 663 (Vardan) —  Released in 1995, GNG 663, also known as Vardan, matures in 150-155 days. It is wilt-resistant and tolerant to Ascochyta blight, yielding 22-25 quintals per hectare.

Karna Chana (CSG 8962) —  Karna Chana, or CSG 8962, released in 1997, matures in 140-147 days. It is ideal for salt-affected areas and yields 22-25 quintals per hectare.
