Black Gram Varieties We Export
India exports a wide range of Black Gram (Urad Dal) varieties, meeting international demand for high-quality, nutritious legumes. The Black Gram exporter in India ensures that the exported varieties comply with strict health and safety standards. Among the most exported varieties is ADT 1, a selection from Aduthurai local, released in 1965. It matures in about 80 days and yields around 450 kg/ha under rainfed conditions, with a high protein content of 19.9%. Another important variety is CO 1, developed from Srivaikundam local and released in 1968, requiring 110 days to mature and producing up to 750 kg/ha with irrigation.
KM 1, released in 1977, matures within 65–70 days and is a drought-tolerant, dwarf variety yielding around 625 kg/ha. The TMV 1 variety, released in 1979, is a cross between Midhi Ulundu and KM 1. It matures in 65–70 days, yields up to 800 kg/ha under irrigation, and is known for its resistance to Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) and root rot. The Vamban 1, released in 1987, matures in 60–65 days and yields up to 900 kg/ha when irrigated, also showing tolerance to YMV.
APK 1, introduced in 1993, matures in 75 days and performs well under both rainfed and irrigated conditions, with yields of 940 kg/ha. The VBN (Bg) 4, released in 2003, matures in 75–80 days and is resistant to YMV, yielding around 900 kg/ha. More recent varieties like MDU 1, released in 2014, and KKM 1, released in 2017, are high-yielding, maturing in about 70–75 and 65–70 days respectively. MDU 1 is resistant to leaf crinkle virus, while KKM 1 is moderately resistant to YMV and powdery mildew, making it suitable for rice fallow conditions.
